School Board Recall Support

In the wake of sweeping closures of schools in 2020 and continued decline in the quality of state schools, Reform California launched the School Board Recall initiative to give parents and concerned citizens a tool to hold school board members accountable.

We help provide the tools to local communities, students and families to potentially recall their local board members. Board members who egregiously disregard the opinions of parents and create toxic environments in their schools have no place in elected office.

Chardá Bell-Fontenot opposed re-opening schools.

Chardá Bell-Fontenot refuses to accept the science that schools are safe and can be reopened for our students. In a recent board meeting, she claimed that parents and board members don't know how schools work and they don't have to give out ANY DATE to reopen.

Chardá Bell-Fontenot created a nasty, hostile work environment.

Chardá Bell-Fontenot created a hostile environment at board meetings and has a pattern of berating fellow board members. On February 23, 2021, she was caught on video attacking her fellow board members and district staff. She called parents and board members “racist” and claimed wanting kids to go back to school is akin to “slavery!”

Chardá Bell-Fontenot doesn't support students and families.

A recent parent survey in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District showed 70-80% of families wanted schools open, but Chardá Bell-Fontenot dismissed their opinion and said sending students back would be conforming to a white supremacist ideology! She's even said it's NOT up to parents when students can go back to school, and only the school board's opinion matters.
